Does My Church Need Wireless Comms?

As a Pastor, Worship Leader or Technical Director, we know how much you care about your worship services impacting your congregation and remaining free of hindrances and hiccups. We also know you want the teams that facilitate these services to thrive in what they love to do. That’s why a good comms system might just be one of the most crucial investments you could make for your Church.

We think that an investment in Comms is a Direct & Valuable investment into Your Team!

Why? Because you'll be directly investing in the effectiveness and development of your people, by equipping them with gear to help take your services to the next level.

A Quick Introduction To Comms

Comms (or intercom) are a way to keep your production and tech teams on the same page, by allowing constant and clear communication throughout the entire service. A good comms system is designed to remove barriers and allow multiple users to stay in touch with each other.

Whilst there is a wide variety of options across all price points, a comms system is usually made up of three key components;

Headsets - allowing users to talk and listen to the whole team or individual users, with a high-fidelity microphone and earcups that isolate them from external noise. Some intercom systems incorporate lightweight options, much like a headset found in a call centre, or simple earbuds for listening only.

Beltpack - Often a small, wearable box that connects the headset and the user to the rest of the intercom system. It also gives them volume and talk control, and depending on the system, the ability to switch between multiple channels of communication.

The key differentiation for belt packs is between wired and wireless options. Wired belt packs connect to the rest of the system through a cable, whereas wireless belt packs use radio frequency to transmit information.

Base Station / Master Unit - The base station acts as the central connection point for the intercom system, with all belt packs connecting to it through either a wired connection or through wireless transceivers located around a venue. The size and often price point of the base station will determine the number of belt packs and users that can be connected in the one system, as well as the number of different channels that your team can talk on.

Some fully wireless systems, such as the Pliant Microcom XR, use a single belt pack as a master unit, removing the need for a base station and creating a more streamlined system.
